MATH 495: Introduction to Topology Fall 2013 Homepage
We are using Kasriel's Undergraduate Topology followed by a topic or two in Munkres' topology text. Professor Evangelos Skoumbourdis is coteaching this course.
- Homework is due the next meeting.
- Midterm 1: 9-24 (time to be arranged, not during regular meeting)(on Chapters 3,4 and 5)
- Midterm 2: 11-19 (time to be arranged, not during regular meeting)(on Chapters 6,7,8 and 9)
- Final Exam: time to be arranged (once student knows final exam schedule for other classes, this class meets at a non-standard time)
To begin the schedule of study is roughly:
(student should know material in Chapters 1 and 2 from prerequisite work)

- Week 3: metric spaces: special properties and mappings (Chapter 4 of Kasriel)
- Week 4: metric spaces: special properties and mappings (Chapter 4 of Kasriel)
- Week 5: metric spaces: some examples and applications (Chapter 5 of Kasriel)
- Week 6: general topological spaces and mappings on topological spaces (Chapter 6 of Kasriel)
- Week 7: compactness and related properties (Chapter 7 of Kasriel)
- Week 8: compactness and related properties (Chapter 7 of Kasriel)
- Week 9: connectedness and related concepts (Chapter 8 of Kasriel)
- Week 10: connectedness and related concepts (Chapter 8 of Kasriel)
- Week 11: quotient spaces (Chapter 9 of Kasriel)
- Week 12: quotient spaces (Chapter 9 of Kasriel)
- Week 13: select topic from Munkres
- Week 14: select topic from Munkres
